WRF 2021 – A Green Deal for Sustainable Resources

This year’s World Resources Forum (WRF 2021), co-hosted by the Ghanaian Ministry for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI) and the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment, will run under the theme of “A Green Deal for Sustainable Resources”, with a focus on three main topic streams: primary resources, secondary resources and circular economy. The conference takes place on October 12-14, in an innovative hybrid format: three days of online sessions and two small-scale in-person events in Switzerland (October 13th) and Ghana (October 14th). The opening speeches will be given by Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, Ghana’s Environment Minister, and Ms. Simonetta Sommaruga, Swiss Federal Councillor.

There will be an in-person Swiss Event, which will be held on 13 October 2021, 9:30-13:00 CET at Empa Akademie in Dübendorf. The focus of this small-scale event will be on Primary Resources with two high level plenary sessions:

  • Session I – Fostering Sustainability in Commodity Trading & FinanceThe role of Transparency & Technology

Panellists:   Martin Bardenhewer (Zürcher Kantonalbank), Florence Schurch (Swiss Trading and Shipping Association), Gediminas Mikutis (Haelixa AG) and Diana Culillas (Swiss Better Gold Association)

  • Session II – ‘Green Mining’ – can we move from vision to reality?

 Panellists: Helene M. Piaget (Responsible Mining Foundation), Anna Krutikov (Glencore), Rohitesh Dhawan (International Council on Mining and Metals) and Gerard Bos (International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)

After a difficult year due to COVID-19 restrictions, key stakeholders are brought together in a physical setting again and you will get the chance to share your perspective and insights on these important topics.

Due to the ongoing limitations, the event has limited capacity and can be accessed based on a first-come-first-serve principle.
