The digital world is often seen as uncoupled from its material conditions. This conference, to be held at Akademie Tutzing, Germany, addresses the various aspects and issues arising from the material side, so to speak, of the digital transformation.
The digital transformation of almost all aspects of life vastly increases the global demand for metals. While the primary sourcing is naturally limited, metals for the digital hardware is mostly finely distributed and difficult to recover. Seen from this perspective, the ongoing digital transformation and also the transition to a sustainable economy is a complex issue which this conference will address in its various aspects.
